ON TUESDAY alone, four people were shot in separate incidents.

The first incident happened in Meadowlands zone 7 in Soweto, where a taxi driver (27) was shot.

The driver, who lived at Dube Hostel, was driving along Maseru Road at about 8pm when he stopped to drop off a passenger.

A BMW stopped in front of the taxi and two men got out and shot at the driver’s side.

Sergeant Octavia Thebe said: “The driver was shot in the head. The passenger was shot on the left-hand middle finger.”

Cases of murder and attempted murder are being investigated.

  • In Tladi, a 56-year-old taxi owner, who was driving a grey Toyota, was allegedly approached by two unknown men just after he parked. The suspects shot at him and ran away. Police are looking for the suspects.
  • In Cosmo City, Randburg, a taxi driver was shot dead in his taxi. Police are investigating a murder case.
  • In Orange Farm, south of Joburg, a taxi owner was at a car wash when he was approached by three men.

One man shot him in the mouth. The taxi owner grabbed the gun and shot the suspect, who died. His friends escaped.

An inquest docket and attempted murder case were opened.
