THELMA Chabalala believes the men who raped her had set a trap for her and attacked her because she was a lesbian.
“When they raped me they insulted me for being a lesbian,” said the woman (35) from Phokwane, near Jane Furse, Limpopo, who agreed that her name and photo could be used.
“They told me they wanted to prove to me that I was a woman, not a man.”
She was left naked and her clothes were ripped to pieces.
The men also took her cellphone before fleeing.
Thelma said she was coming back home from a night vigil when three men approached her at her house.
“One grabbed me from behind while the other blindfolded me. They then took me to a nearby sports ground where they took turns raping me,” she said.
She said the incident happened two months ago but it’s hard to get over the ordeal.
“I am still having nightmares as no one has been arrested.”
“I pray day and night that these rapists didn’t infect me with sexually transmitted diseases,” she sobbed.
She has moved out of her house to stay with her brother in another village.
Constable Thapelo Lesufi said a case of rape has been opened.
“It’s difficult to make an arrest because the victim cannot identify the culprits because she was blindfolded. We are hoping to make arrests soon as our investigating team is on this case day and night.”
