A MAN accused of stabbing a homeless man appeared in court yesterday.

The Pretoria Magistrates Court postponed the attempted murder case against Manusi Mothupi (40) to next Monday. This will give the investigator a chance to check whether there are other pending cases against him.

The investigater also needed to verify Mothupi’s given address in Ga-Matlala, Limpopo. During the proceedings, Mothupi also asked for legal aid.

Gauteng NPA spokeswoman Phindi Mjonondwane said on Friday, they decided not to prosecute as there was not enough evidence but a new docket was brought forward yesterday.

“The NPA charged him with attempted murder as the state alleges he stabbed a victim in May in Muckleneuk, Tshwane,” she said.

However, Mjonondwane said there was no information linking him to the murders of the five homeless people in the same area recently.

Police spokesman Captain Daniel Mavimbela said a high level task team was probing those killings.

He said the victims were found to have suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body but the motive behind the killings is still being investigated.
