GRADE two pupils watched in horror as an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped in the classroom.

One girl was allegedly raped and another sexually molested by boys aged seven to 10 at a primary school in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni on Monday.

It happened after a teacher had left the classroom.

The mother of the eight-year-old girl said her daughter told her that whenever the teacher left the classroom, the boys pulled up the girls’ skirts and stabbed their backsides with pens.

On Monday, when the teacher left the classroom, a 10-year-old boy ordered the girl to lie down and then six of them raped her.

“The boys forced them to open their legs by stabbing them with pencils and pens,” said the mother.

Eventually a pupil ran out of the classroom and called a teacher. The deputy principal came and took the children to the principal’s office.

The mother said she took her daughter to a clinic where officials confirmed that her daughter had been raped. She said she would lay charges against the boys once she has received a letter from the clinic.

The 25-year-old mother of the seven-year-old molested girl said the principal and his teachers knew about the incident.

“I’m asking the department to deal with these teachers who didn’t say anything,” she said.

Gauteng Department of Education spokeswoman Phumla Sekhonyane said the principal and the school governing body have been instructed to facilitate disciplinary proceedings against the alleged perpetrators.

She said: “The facts around this incident will determine the course of action.

“Our psycho-social unit is visiting the school.” She said another parent claimed on Tuesday that her daughter had been molested as well. “We have asked this parent to come forward with evidence so it can be investigated.”

Captain Piet Rossouw confirmed that police knew about the alleged offence.

“It is alleged that they took her panties,” said Rossouw. “As soon as the parents open cases, the police will help.”
