WHAT a relief for the residents Northern Suburbs, Port Elizabeth.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-Gen-eral Liziwe Ntshinga said 50 arrests had been made by the new anti-gang unit since the beginning of the month.

“They’ve been doing door-to-door and street-to-street campaigns. A large drop in gang-related murders and attempted murders has been noticed,” said Ntshinga.

She said the confiscation of drugs and guns had impacted on the gangs’ ability to do their dirty work.

“Anti-gang unit efforts resulted in the recovery of 24 firearms, 205 rounds of ammunition and 13 020 units of drugs, including dagga, Mandrax and tik,” she said.
