GETTING the man arrested for brewing booze in a residential house is not enough for the people in the area.
“He will soon be released and he’ll be back brewing his evil booze,” said an angry resident of Mawelewele in Savannah Park, Chatsworth in Durban.
“We will be satisfied only once he has left for good. He must leave before he destroys people’s lives.”
Another resident told Daily Sun the 36-year-old man had moved into an abandoned house some months ago.
“But he never brought any furniture. We had no idea where he came from,” said the resident.
“Then people started coming to his house and leaving with booze in bottles labelled Johnnie Walker Red, Johnnie Walker Black, Smirnoff, Klipdrift and others.”
The source said residents found out that he was making the alcohol himself.
“That stuff is so strong, you can drink it on Friday and stay drunk until Sunday,” said the source.
He said when residents went into the house they found empty bottles and barrels lying around.
“They got angry and beat him up before the police arrived. He must go before he kills people. We can’t have such a tsotsi living with us in the same community,” the source said.
When the SunTeam visited the house on Wednesday it was locked, but the smell of booze surrounded it.
Bottles could be seen lying around on the floor as well as on the rubbish heap outside.
Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that a 36-year-old man was arrested after he was found brewing liquor illegally.
“He was arrested and charged with selling liquor without a licence.”
He appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
KZN Liquor Authority spokesmanSiva Naidoo said the alcohol had been confiscated and it would be tested by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
