THE National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has terminated its agreement with Gold One Mine in Springs, Ekurhuleni.
NUM released a media statement on Tuesday, 14 November evening, stating that the union has decided to safeguard jobs and save the lives of innocent workers.
“There's a legitimate concern that if the violent acts continue, some of our members or innocent workers are going to get killed,” the statement read.

“On Sunday night, the car belonging to a former NUM shop steward comrade, Prince Radebe, was burnt. Three other occupants in the car escaped and ran for their lives. Members who don't support the protest are intimidated and threatened daily,” NUM said.
There has been a protest in the past weeks as workers wanted Amcu to take over.
On Monday, 13 November, workers were arrested during a standoff between police and Amcu miners outside the Gold One Mine in Springs, Ekurhuleni.
During the hostage situation two weeks ago, nine NUM members were allegedly assaulted underground, and one member ended up in the ICU.
