TRADITIONAL healer Sibongile Ndlovu was devastated after her nanny allegedly stole her eight-month-old daughter and R29 000 in cash.
The 40-year-old from Masingitana Village outside Acornhoek, Mpumalanga, said on Monday, 5 September, she left her baby with the nanny to visit her parents in Cottondale.
But when she returned at 8.30pm, her relatives told her that the nanny had vanished with the baby. Luckily, according to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the baby was found at the nearby car wash on Tuesday morning, 6 September.
Although her baby was found, Sibongile said she still wanted the money the nanny allegedly stole from her.
According to Sibongile, the nanny had told relatives she was going to make a fire outside to cook for them.
“She also took R16 000 that I had stuffed in a milk tin and R13 000 I had sent her to deposit into my bank account,” she cried. Sibongile shared that she met the woman in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, in February, while she was looking for a job.
“I trusted her story and took her home to babysit my child as I was always busy with healing work. I paid her well and treated her as a family friend,” she said.
“We searched for her at our relatives but were unsuccessful. Her phone rang, but she eventually switched it off. We reported the matter to the police, who are currently searching for her,” she said.
Brigadier Mohlala said Sibongile alleged that on 3 September, she sent her domestic worker to deposit cash at the mall.
“Instead of depositing the money, the woman took a certain amount of the cash and on 5 September, stole another stash from the house. The complainant thereafter opened a case of theft at the Acornhoek Police Station,” he said.
“The case regarding the missing baby was not filed as the baby was found at a nearby car wash.”
