SIFUNDZA family members are claiming that explosives were used to destroy their house.

Nqobile Sifundza (27), who was in the house in Nkomazi, Mpumalanga, told Daily Sun she was woken up by a strange sound. Then when she opened the window, she saw flames. She was inside with her three siblings, aged between six and 21, as well as gogo Resa Mbatsane (83). The gogo said while she was trying to get everyone out unharmed, there was another blast.

“Not knowing what to do, we just stood there and watched the house burning down. We don’t know the motive behind this. We are scared because we don’t know what the people who did this are planning next.”

Gogo’s son, Thomas Sifundza, (56) urged cops to arrest the culprits.

“My mother built this house with the money she made while selling vetkoek and vegetables. People destroyed it within seconds. What happened shows our lives are in danger.”

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the real cause of the fire was unknown and police were investigating.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that there was an explosion. The bomb disposal squad will investigate,” he said.
