HERBERT Ndakisa is not a happy man.

This is because his yard has turned into a dam as a result of a leaking water meter.

The 40-year-old from Phola near Emalahleni in Mpumalanga said the meter had been leaking for four years. He said municipal officials checked it last year and promised to return to fix it, but they never returned.

Herbert told Daily Sun the water smelled badly.

“The leaking meter is making life difficult for my family. Water is scarce but for the past four years, my meter has wasted many litres of water. My yard has turned into a dam,” said Herbert.

“Officials said the metre was leaking from a pipe underneath. They promised to come back to fix it but it has been a year now. During summer, mosquitoes breed in the water.”

He said the wet yard made the house very cold and his family members were constantly getting flu. Emalahleni municipal spokesman Lebogang Mofokeng said the technical team was sent to check the leak. He said they would then take it from there.
