WHEN Nokuthula Mbhele assisted a mother, little did she know she was inviting problems into her life.
The woman asked her to watch her baby and then vanished!
Nokuthula, who is originally from the Eastern Cape but lives in Durban, said she knew the mum as she had previously watched her 10-month-old son.
On 1 May, the woman asked her to look after the child again while she went to see her boyfriend but this time, she never came back.
Nokuthula said she didn’t know the mother’s full name or where she lived, so she took the baby to the police as she needed to go home to the Eastern Cape.
KZN police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said members of the Durban Central child protection unit were asking for help to find the mother, or relatives of the abandoned child. Gwala said the child has been taken to a place of safety.
She appealed to anyone who may have information about the mother or relatives to call investigating officer Detective Constable Musawenkosi Dlani on 079 812 0486, or CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
