THE Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has welcomed the sentencing of a man found driving at an exceedingly high speed last year.

RTMC spokesman Simon Zwane said the man was arrested by the National Traffic Police on 4 January 2022 while driving at 217km/h on the N1 in Mokgophong.

“A case was opened at Naboomspruit Police Station, and he was charged under Section 59 OF NRTA 93 OF 1996,” Zwane said.

He said the motorist appeared at Mokgophong Magistrates Court on Thursday, 23 March, and was found guilty of exceeding the general speed limit of 120km/h.

“He was sentenced to R10 000- or 3-months imprisonment.

“The RTMC remains committed to eradicating lawlessness on the roads and improving compliance with regulations,” Zwane added.
