A CASE of reckless and negligent driving has been opened at Sandringham Police Station after a motorist using the emergency lane crashed into a Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) vehicle.
Officers Simphiwe Msimanga and Neo Motseke of the Freeway Patrol Unit were attending to an accident scene on the N3 South Freeway and London Road in Linbro Park early on Sunday morning, 27 November when a silver Citroen motor vehicle crashed into their white BMW.
According to JMPD spokesman Xolani Fihla, the silver Citroen travelling in the emergency lane collided with the rear of the white Freeway Patrol BMW, which was stationary. The BMW then crashed into a white Kia Rio, which was also stationary due to an earlier accident that the officers were attending to.
“Both male officers sustained serious and critical injuries and were rushed to Milpark Hospital. The male driver of the Citroen sustained critical injuries. He was taken to Helen Joseph Hospital, while the female passenger from the Citroen sustained serious injuries. She was taken to Morningside Hospital. No one was in the Kia at the time of the collision,” said Fihla.
