accreditation

ANGY residents of Hennenman in the Free State burnt a violent pitbull dog to death after it killed a three-year-old boy today, 20 November.

Keketso Saule was playing at Sekoti Mpate Section when two pitbulls mauled him to death.

Gatvol residents attacked the dogs. One of them was hit with garden spades, pelted with stones and subsequently burnt to death.

The other pitbull was taken away by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for safe keeping.

The owner of the dogs was also taken away by cops for his own safety as residents were planning to attack him.

Keketso’s grandfather Maitse Saule said: “My grandson was so unfortunate. His death broke my heart. We learnt through the media that pitbull owners are asked to surrender their dogs to the SPCA, but this owner refused to do that.”

Police spokesman Captain Steven Thakeng confirmed that the dogs mauled the little boy until he died.

Angry residents wanted to kill both dogs and attack the owner.

But members of the Welkom Public Order Policing were summoned to the scene and took away the owner.

“Residents attacked the dogs and one of them was killed with gadern spades, hit with stones and burnt to death,” said Thakeng.
