CAPE Town residents woke up to a disturbing sight on Saturday, 10 February.
A missing schoolgirl was found dead, covered in mud in a canal near Ithemba Farms in the Blue Downs area.
Monneashia Prins (11) was last seen wearing her school uniform on Friday, 9 February, after she returned from school.
It's reported the girl returned from school and later told her sister she was going to play at the neighbour’s house.
Neighbours told the family she left with "an uncle” the family didn’t know.
Her body was later found in a canal, The incident has left umphakathi traumatised.

On Monday, a family member, Tamikua Whittey Humphreys, posted on social media about missing Monneashia and called for the residents to help.
On Monday, 12 February, Spurwing Primary School, where Monneashia attends also urged the public to help locate the missing girl.
“We're appealing to the community to be on the lookout for our learner, Monneashia Prins. Any information is welcome,” a message was posted on the school’s Facebook page.
Wesley Twigg, spokesman for the Western Cape police, confirmed the tragic discovery.
“Kleinvlei police registered an inquest for investigation after the body of an unknown child was discovered in a canal near Ithemba Farms on Saturday, February 10. The victim was covered in mud. She was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” Twigg said.
According to Twigg, the family only reported Monneashia missing after her body was found. He confirmed that the discovered body was indeed hers.
“Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” he said.
