PARENTS of the children who were allegedly raped by a pastor said they trusted him because he is supposed to be a man of God.

The 56-year-old pastor was arrested for allegedly raping 13 children, including 11 boys and two girls, in Luvisi Village in Nquthu, northern KZN.

He has allegedly been luring children to his place since last year to watch cartoons and later, he’d play pornographic videos.

A parent (41), whose five boys were allegedly raped, said the pastor was caught when one of the kids told their helper. , identifying 11 boys and two girls who suffered at the hands of the man.

She said they questioned the boys who confessed.

She said the five boys, twins aged 13 and others aged 11, nine and eight, confessed that the pastor did rape them. but they were said the pastor threatened to kill their parents if they spoke. KZN Social Development MEC Nonhlahla Khoza said: religious leaders were expected to be the ones who should build a society where children and women were safe. “Parents and communities must pay more attention to their kids.” These children constantly visited the reverend after school because they were manipulated,” she said.

“This man is called a pastor but he doesn’t have a church in the village. He attended a church in the village and was renting a room and he would lure the boys and girls to go there,” she said. We don’t want this pastor back here,” said the parent.

A 26-year-old older brother of a 14-year-old said the behaviour of his brother changed completely as he always locked himself in his room.

“When we confronted he confessed that the pastor was sleeping with them,” he said.

The pastor appeared in the Nquthu Magistrates Court on Friday, 23 September, and will appear again on 14 October.
