BEING active is helping Constable Nomfundo Langa manoeuvre easily when she chases after thugs.

And the 33-year-old constable, who is based at the Mtubatuba cop shop in KZN, believes that her love of sport is keeping her career in shape.

Nomfundo recently won the Sportswoman of the Year Award at the provincial SAPS Excellence Awards in Durban.

She said being in the gym helps her maintain her weight and keeps her well mentally.

“Whenever I am not on duty, I keep myself busy at the gym. This helps to keep me in shape because I understand that I need to be mentally and physically fit for this job,” said Nomfundo.

Nomfundo said during her police training they were told that cops need to be slim so they can conduct their work easily.

“I kept that teaching with me. So I started enjoying running and going to the gym,” she said.

Nomfundo joined police service in 2016 to protect those who can’t defend themselves.

She said her grandmother was murdered in 1998, but no one was arrested.

“I grew up wanting to help families like mine to get justice. I want everyone on the wrong side of the law to get punished,” she said.
