A NEEDY family from Ward 21 in Evaton North, Vaal, has received help from their councillor, Ndade Mokoena.
Mokoena, who’s also the member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for public safety, recently donated food parcels to needy families in his kasi. He told Daily Sun that while doing his door-to-door visits, he entered the Memela family house and their situation touched him.
He said he has four other families he buys groceries for from his own pocket.
“I am now adopting the Memela family to be part of the families I will donate food to every month,” he said.

The food parcels contain vegetables, canned food, mealie meal, rice, samp, sugar and cooking oil. “I am doing what God has chosen me to do since taking office as a councillor in 2016.
“It’s tough to think of a child going to bed on an empty stomach or going to school hungry,” said Mokoena.
He said he goes door-to-door in his ward every month as part of engaging with the community.
Zintle Memela (49), an unemployed mother of three, said she is grateful for the food parcels the councillor donated to her family. “The food parcels will make life a bit easier. May God bless Mokoena,” she said.
