THE Limpopo Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism (LEDET) MEC, Rodgers Monama, has expressed his frustration with liquor establishment owners who continue to play loud music during examination hours.

This comes after the department recently received complaints of loud music emerging from liquor restaurants during examination hours.

The liquor outlets that continue to make noise during examination hours will soon face the music.

LEDET spokesman Zaid Kalla said the Limpopo Liquor Board received the complaints with fury.

“This is because the board expects cooperation from all licensed liquor outlets, especially those operating adjacent to schools,” he said.

Kalla said all license holders are hereby notified that complaints from schools or community members will be taken seriously.

“Should the license holder be found guilty, the board will revoke the license or alternatively, conditions of such license will be drastically amended,” he said.

He said MEC Monama calls on liquor establishments near schools to curb loud music.

License holders are also reminded that they have a responsibility to control their patrons/customers.

“No customer is entitled to purchase alcohol from a liquor restaurant and consume it outside the establishment or in their vehicles while playing loud music and causing nuisance,” said Kalla.

He said the department will attend to all formal complaints received.

“The department will not negotiate on any solution presented by license holders, which does not favor or respect pupils or examination hours,” Kalla said.
