GAUTENG Health and Wellness MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko officially opened the Ga-Rankuwa Forensic Pathology Service (FPS) training room in Tshwane on Tuesday, 4 July.
Nkomo-Ralehoko described the occasion as a step forward in forensic pathology education and training. She thanked Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University for their support and collaboration.
"The collaboration with the university is of great importance to our mission of providing quality education and training to aspiring medical professionals," she said.
She said the Ga-Rankuwa FPS training room is a testament to the shared commitment to advance medical education, as prospective forensic pathologists and medical professionals could develop their skills, gain practical knowledge and refine their expertise in the field of forensic pathology.

"Education has played an important role in providing the necessary resources and expertise to educate and train aspiring forensic pathologists," she said.
"After careful consideration, it was concluded that moving the training to the Ga-Rankuwa Forensic Pathology Service morgue would be beneficial to both Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University and the Ga-Rankuwa Forensic Pathology Service."
The MEC said that the newly established practise room will serve as a dedicated space for teaching and training medical students. In addition, the facility will be used to expand teaching and training opportunities for SAPS detectives and other relevant stakeholders.
Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University and Ga-Rankuwa Forensic Pathology Service Chief specialist, Dr Keven Hlaise, said students will learn that there are indeed three sides to a forensic story - the story of the victims and survivors, the story of the suspect, and the story of the forensic experts.
Professor Nathaniel Mofolo of the university said: "This facility serves the North West region of Tshwane municipality, a region that stretches from Pretoria North in the east to Ga-Rankuwa in the west and Pretoria North in the south on the border with Limpopo province along the western side of the N1 highway in the north."
