FAMILIES of the 16 people who died in the tavern in Lahlumlenze in Orlando East, Soweto, may have to wait a little bit longer to get justice.

Suspects identified in the Mdlalose tavern shooting have skipped the country.

This is according to Gauteng Premier David Makhura, who was giving an update in the legislature about multiple shootings that claimed about 35 lives and left 32 injured in July.

Makhura said the police are tracking down the suspects.

“We know in Orlando, at Nomzamo, people were killed, shot, and killed there with high calibre weapons. The killers did not take anything,” he said.

He said he reported to the legislature that the police had identified the Nomzamo killers.

“These are people who have left the country. We have tracked them down to one of the countries in the SADC region and the police in Gauteng are working with authorities in that country to bring those killers back because we want them here to face the might of the law,” said Makhura.

He said the suspects in the Alexandra case and the Katlehong case were arrested.

“The suspects in the Thembelihle case, where four people were killed, are still on the run,” he said. Speaking about the suspension of Tembisa Hospital CEO and Gauteng health’s chief financial officer, Makhura defended the decision saying the suspension was in accordance with the law.

“The allegations against the CFO and the CEO of Tembisa are serious enough that they have been referred to the Special Investigating Unit,” he said.
