MTHOBENI GuestHouse in Tseki Village, QwaQwa in the Free State became a crime scene on Thursday, 3 August when a couple was shot dead while sleeping.
The gruesome discovery was made by a 21-year-old matric pupil who was appointed to take care of the guests when the owner was shot dead in 2022.
The pupil told Daily Sun he was asleep in the garage of the guesthouse when he heard two gunshots. He said that after a few minutes he decided to go and investigate.
"The perpetrator or perpetrators were very experienced. They used a very intelligent mechanism to open a burglar door."

The matriculant claimed the deceased's window and door were opened, which made him curious.
"I called them by their names but they did not respond. When I entered the room, they were still lying in bed in a pool of blood. I called my mum, and we went to Tseki Police Station," he said.
The deceased were identified by the pupil as a 20-year-old current owner of the guesthouse and her 35-year-old boyfriend. The pupil said they were staying at the guesthouse permanently after the previous owner was murdered.
The incident has shocked the villagers.
A 46-year-old concerned villager said: "We are deeply shocked. We hope that the police will be able to trace the culprits and prosecute them. Our village is a danger zone. We would like to ask Police Minister Bheki Cele to send amaberete for six months only. We have been terrorised in the presence of the police."
The pupil was advised to get counselling.
Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the police need the help of the community to bring the suspects to justice.
"The deceased have been identified by the pupil but not yet by their families. The motive for the killing is not yet known. A case of murder is being investigated," said Mophiring.
The families of the deceased could not be reached for comment.
