A MAN who is suspected of killing six people in Enkanini, Khayelitsha, on 20 March is out on R800 bail. Thando Shuba (35) was granted bail on Tuesday, 26 April. He is expected to appear again in court on 6 July.
Residents of Enkanini are not happy. They accused the courts of being too lenient on suspects.
Resident Nosisi Siko (45) said: “He is being accused of serious crimes. Six people lost their lives but he gets to walk on the streets again after paying only R800.
“There is no justice in this country. He should have stayed in jail or the court should have asked for at least R10 000 bail.”
In his previous appearances, Shuba’s lawyer Phindile Vepile said his client had an alibi.
He argued that on Sunday, 20 March, at around 4pm his client was in the Belhar area and they had footage from two business premises and a student residential place to prove his innocence.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesman in the Western Cape, Eric Ntabazalila, said: “The Khayelitsha Magistrates Court granted murder accused, Thando Shuba,
R800 bail. His case was postponed to 6 July for further investigation.
“Shuba is charged with six counts of murder following the fatal shooting of six young people outside a shack in Enkanini more than a month ago.”
Meanwhile Madoda Zwayi (34), who is charged with five counts of murder for the shooting of five people in New Monwabisi Park in Khayelitsha, also appeared in court on Tuesday, 26 April.
His case was postponed to 3 May 2022 for bail application.
