COPS in Bronville, Free State, have asked the public to assist in identifying the body of an unknown man found floating in a dam near Winnie Park on Saturday, 9 April.
Captain Stephen Thakeng said cops were called to the scene by community members after noticing the body.
“The SAPS diving unit members managed to successfully retrieve the body,” said Thakeng.
He said that the man, who was suspected to have drowned, was certified dead. He also had no visible injuries on the body. An inquest docket was registered for further investigation.
“The dead is an African man, who is 1,7m tall and could be between the ages of 38 and 42. The body was already in a decomposed state. The man was wearing blue jeans and a brown T-shirt. The body is still at the Welkom government mortuary, yet to be identified,” Thakeng said.
