Manhunt launched for murder and rape suspect(s)

THE 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign seems to be failing in achieving its goal as more women are being killed.

On Sunday, 11 December, the body of an unknown woman was found by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) near the R21 freeway, just before the Voortrekker off-ramp to Kempton Park.

According to EMPD spokeswoman Thabiso Makgato, the woman was declared dead on the scene.

She was found with stab wounds and she’s alleged to have been raped as well.

“Her pieces of clothing were also found at the scene,” said Makgato.

She also revealed that the crime scene had blood stains and it appears that the victim was trying to cross over the freeway.

The Emergency Management Services team tried to resuscitate the woman when they arrived at the scene, but they failed to do so due to heavy bleeding.

The woman is unknown and cops need help to identify her.

“Anyone who might have a missing family member should report to their nearest police station,” said Makgato.

The perpetrators are still at large and police are asking SunReaders to help find the culprits.
