accreditation

MPUMALANGA police have launched a manhunt for a gunman on the loose who shot dead a man (41) at his house in Justicia outside Mkhuhlu near Bushbuckridge on Tuesday, 21 June at around 10.30pm.

The victim’s lover (38) told the police she and her boyfriend were in the house when they heard a knock on their bedroom window.

She said: “While we were about to sleep someone knocked on the window and was calling his name, asking him to open the door. But he refused.

“My boyfriend asked the suspect who he was, but the intruder never introduced himself. Instead he told him not to be afraid as he insisted that he open the door.

“He opened the window curtain to look outside. The suspect fired a shot, and shot him once on the neck, and he fell down. I then quickly sent a call back to my family, and shouted for help. Residents came running to help, but the suspect had already fled the scene,” she said.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala confirmed a case of murder has been opened, and the suspect is unknown at present.

The investigation continues.
