DELFT residents heard gunshots on Wednesday night, 24 August but, scared of being injured themselves, they didn’t go outside immediately.

When they did go out they saw a man shot and bleeding in front of his house. He was shot while coming from the shop.

“This young man isn’t involved in gang-related activities,” said a resident.

“We don’t understand why someone would shoot him.”

However, other residents claimed the man was on drugs and robbed people in areas away from his home.

“He was beaten in Hague two years ago after he robbed a woman in the street,” claimed a resident who lives on the same area. “I’m not surprised at this incident because he was also on drugs.”

A 48-year-old female resident said the man had changed his ways and he didn’t deserve to die like that.

“He grew up in front of me. He once made wrong decisions but he had repented and changed his ways,” she said.

Delft has been suffering because of gang-related shootings. The Delft Community Policing Forum chairman Pastor Charles George is calling for the government to address poverty in his kasi as he believes it is the root of crimes taking place around Delft.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said police are investigating a murder case after a shooting incident on Wednesday at about 8.30pm in Iforas Street, N2 Gateway, Delft where a 25-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded.

“The motive is unknown at this stage. According to reports, cops responded to a murder complaint and on their arrival, they found the body of the victim lying on the ground. Police were informed that the victim was shot by two unknown males. He sustained gunshot wounds in his back and left side. The unknown suspects fled the scene,” said Van Wyk.
