FREE STATE cops have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly stabbing a 27-year-old man to death outside a tavern.

According to Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, police were called to a tavern in Tlholong, near Kestell, on Sunday, 8 May, at about 1.30pm.

The victim, Tommy Miya, was stabbed while smoking outside the premises.

Mophiring said it’s alleged Miya, who had sustained stab wounds, ran into the tavern and fell on the floor.

“He was declared dead by the emergency medical services team. The motive behind the killing is unknown. A case of murder is being investigated,” said Mophiring.

He said Miya was identified by his relative.

“The suspect was traced and arrested late in the afternoon. A knife was seized as an exhibit. The suspect appeared before the Kestell Magistrates Court on Monday, 9 May, facing a charge of murder,” he said.

The accused was also charged with being in possession of a dangerous weapon.

His case was postponed to 18 May for legal aid and a formal bail application.
