ONE person was killed and two injured on Monday morning, 11 July, following a head-on collision on the M4 near the Virginia Airport off-ramp in Durban.

Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said reports indicate that a bakkie and car were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the car rolling.

“Medics assessed the scene and found that the driver of the car, an adult male, had sustained fatal injuries. He was declared dead on the scene,” Herbst said in a statement.

He said rescue personnel used hydraulic tools to free the dead from the car.

“Two other occupants from the bakkie, both adult males, had sustained moderate injuries.

“They were treated on the scene before being transported by ambulance to hospital for further care,” Herbst added.

He said various response teams such as the Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services, Durban Metropolitan Police Service, Durban North cops, Emer-G-Med and Marshall Security were all on the scene.
