THE Nquthu Regional Court sentenced a 35-year-old man to life imprisonment on Monday, 16 May for brutally raping his niece.
According to KZN police spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, on 9 September 2018, the girl who was 11 years old, was at her uncle’s home at Mondlo when he forced her to watch a pornographic video and raped her.
“He gave her R8 and threatened to kill her should she tell anyone. The girl was brave enough to report the rape to her elders. A case of rape was opened at Mondlo SAPS and it was transferred to Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences,” Gwala said.
Following a sterling investigation, the accused was arrested and made several court appearances before he was sentenced.
“He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be put in the sexual offender’s register,” said Gwala.
