KROONSTAD highway patrol cops arrested a 55-year-old man for being in possession of suspected stolen copper cables on Thursday, 12 May.
According to Captain Malebo Khosana, at about 9.30am, cops patrolling the N1 in Kroonstad towards the south were conducting a stop and search.
“They noticed a suspicious white 10-ton truck heading towards the north, and searched it. The truck had worn-out tyres at the back, and underneath them were pieces of copper cables. The driver could not give a clear account of how he managed to be in possession of the cables,” Khosana said in a statement, adding that he was then arrested.
“Cops confiscated the truck and copper cables, worth an estimated street value of about R82 000. The suspect will be charged for possession of suspected stolen property and being an undocumented person,” Khosana said.
The suspect will appear in the Kroonstad Magistrates Court soon.
