Thubelihle Mpisi has been bust for the murder of his girlfriend, Mahlako Rabalao.

THE saying "the internet never forgets" has come back to haunt lawyer Thubelihle Sbonakaliso Mpisi (30).

Mpisi was arrested in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Mahlako Malebo Rabalao (27), whose burnt body was found on the front seat of a car in Midrand, Gauteng in March 2023.

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Phindi Mjonondwane, Mpisi was arrested in KZN on Friday, 28 July following a warrant for his arrest that had been issued nine days earlier.

Mpisi's appearance in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday, 31 July, brought back the Facebook post he penned a few days after Mahlako's body was identified.

The lawyer penned down a heartbreaking message of the great loss he had suffered.

The message read:

Rest in peace my love. The pain I’m in is so deep. I don’t know where to begin to start picking up the pieces. How do I raise Beanie ungekho? I thank God for giving me the time we’ve shared together, nothing can ever take that away.

Shocked to find that this was the same person who appeared in court for the murder of Mahlako, several people on social media began lashing out under the post.

Many called him out for being a good actor while others lashed him.

"What will you tell your son? You killed someone's child so badly. What is this pain in his family," one user said.

According to Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, on 7 March 2023 at about 9pm, police received a call about a burning vehicle in Midrand.

He said on arrival, they found a Mercedes-Benz that was on fire and when the fire was extinguished, human remains were found in the front seat of the car.

Investigations later revealed that the body was that of Mahlako.

"During the investigation, it transpired that the deceased was killed and burnt inside the vehicle, and the suspect is her boyfriend. A warrant of arrest was issued by the Randburg Magistrates Court," Masondo said.

He said when he appeared before the court, his matter was postponed for possible bail hearing.

Mpisi remains in custody until his next court appearance on 7 August.
