THE cash-strapped Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality in the Free State slammed the EFF for what they called misleading information.

This is regarding an alleged disappearance of R1,4 billion in municipality's coffers that was allocated to fix long overdue water crisis.

The overwhelming allegations were made EFF provincial secretary Malefane Msimanga in a recent interview with Daily Sun.

According to Msimanga, the national Department of Water and Sanitation has allocated R3 billion to the municipality to end water challenges, but unfortunately R1,4 billion was allegedly disappeared through corruption with no sign of manifestation of Water Project in the municipality.

Council Speaker Mandlenkosi Dlamini said Msimanga was lying because the money is not with Maluti-a-Phofung. "The money was ejected by Department of Water and Sanitation, and it was handed to Bloem Water to facilitate water projects primarily to the end long overdue water crisis.

"This is a misleading information. There's no money that came straight to our municipality's coffers. The money was given to Bloem Water as implementing urgency. Maluti-a-Phofung it's just a beneficiary. The EFF secretary knows nothing about Maluti-a-Phofung. He must get his facts correct," said Mandlenkosi.

The residents have been struggling with water for years. Some villages have been without water for more than a decade, with no proper running water in their taps.

Department of Water and Sanitation's first attempt to address water challenges in Maluti-a-Phofung in 2019 has never bear fruit.
