CAPE Town district commander Major-General Vincent Beaton has vowed to arrest those who killed a well-known kasi crime fighter, Nobuhle Sopuwa.
Nobuhle, a secretary of the neighbourhood watch in the area, was murdered while washing clothes at her house on New Year’s Eve at about 2pm.
“Those who killed her will be brought to justice, and whether she was killed because she was a neighbourhood watch member or for other reason, we will investigate that. It was not long ago when our deputy chairperson (of CPF) was killed,” he said.
Beaton addressed neighbourhood watch, community police forum (CPF) and residents during the memorial service of Nobuhle Sopuwa on Friday, 5 January, at Bongolethu Primary School in Philippi Brown’s Farm.
The top cop called for unity and said cops will only manage to arrest the thugs if the communities worked with them.

He said the thugs who have been terrorising kasi must be brought to book, but it can only happen when there's unity in fighting crime.
“Criminals are in the minority. We, as SAPS and community, must stand together and be united against crime. These faceless cowards are even prepared to kill innocent law-abiding citizens, and innocent women are brutally killed. These criminals must be identified and must be exposed."
Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk confirmed the shooting incident that happened on 31 December 2023 at about 2.02pm on Tywaka Road, Block 8.
“According to reports, Philippi SAPS members attended a murder complaint at a medical facility in Mitchells Plain. Upon arrival at the scene, they were shown the body of a 42-year-old female with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Circumstances surrounding this shooting incident are under investigation. The motive and suspect/s behind this incident are unknown,” said Van Wyk.
