WALMER detectives in Gqeberha are investigating a case of house robbery after an elderly couple was assaulted and robbed in their home at Alcock Road on Tuesday, 10 May, by two armed suspects.

According to police spokeswoman Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that at about 11am, the 78-year-old gogo was working on her computer in the study when two unknown men walked in through the open sliding door.

“One was armed with a firearm and the other with a knife. The complainant was assaulted and tied up with a cable tie. The suspects then ransacked the house. The husband (80) returned home and he too was assaulted and tied up,” Naidu said.

She said the madala managed to untie himself and his wife.

Naidu said the traumatised gogo managed to climb through a window and alerted her neighbour about the robbery.

“The suspects left in the couple’s 1999 dark blue VW Golf 5, a flat-screen TV, cellphones, a tablet as well as other household items. The couple was taken to hospital for treatment,” said Naidu.

She further urged residents to make sure that security gates are locked when leaving doors open.
