MESHACK Legae recently celebrated his 101 birthday.
Speaking to Daily Sun, madala Meshack from Phokeng, outside Rustenburg in the North West, said he is concerned Mzansi’s losing young people to alcohol and drugs.
Madala said they witnessed the painful era of apartheid and it broke his heart that most young people are not using their freedom to their advantage.
“The kind of celebrations held on June 16 are worrying. Young people drink alcohol and party all night.
“This is wrong. Let this be a reminder to not waste your youth. What you do in your youth has a huge impact on your life,” he said.
He encouraged young people to focus on things that will benefit them. in the future and to stop drinking alcohol and taking drugs.
“Respect your elders. Keep active and eat healthy. Remember the people who fought during the struggle, the people who sacrificed their lives and those who died.
Madala Meshack was a soldier and who travelled around the world. Hehas six children. His last born is 62 years old.
He said his secret to a long life is not drinking alcohol or smoking.
His granddaughter, Matshwau (39), said madala doesn’t like anything else besides vegetables and mabele pap.
“We are blessed to have him. He is wise and is always giving us advice,” she said. He is respected by people in our community for is wisdom,” she said.
“He can hold a conversation without fail. He is always busy around the garden, cutting trees. I admire him a lot,” he said.
