Lovebirds bust for false hijacking case!

accreditation

A COUPLE has been arrested for opening a false case at Booysens Police Station in Joburg.

According to Captain Lorraine van Emmerik, on Monday, 28 March, crime intelligence cops detected a hijacking case that was opened at the station.

She said cops noticed that the alleged stolen vehicle was also linked to another case.

“It was decided that the complainant and his girlfriend in the hijacking case should be reinterviewed. Further investigation revealed that the complainant falsely reported a case of hijacking as it never took place,” van Emmerik said in a statement.

She added that the complainant and his girlfriend were arrested for perjury.

Station commander Brigadier HA Jones sent a stern warning to community members.

“If it is found that a community member has opened a false case, they will be arrested for perjury. Opening a false case means lying under oath, which is punishable by law.”

Jones further urged the public to refrain from reporting false cases as this wasted both time and resources that could have been directed to an actual serious matter.
