WHEN Lindelwa Mahlalela applied to university in 2018, she experienced many difficulties.
She soon realised she was not the only one facing these problems.
The 22-year-old from Numbi Village, near Mbombela in Mpumalanga, came up with a plan to make things easier.
She created an app called Lee Connect, which helps pupils apply to varsities and work out which courses they qualify for.
Lindelwa said using the app only costs R50 and sends applications to five universities.
“I realised that many pupils don’t have the information they need to complete their university applications, so I came up with a plan,” she said. “I did this in partnership with app developer, Dingaan Letjane.”
Lindelwa said in 2021, she helped 750 pupils apply to tertiary institutions and 500 were accepted.
She said she has already helped 10 pupils since the start of 2022.
“I have only applied for a few, but I expect the number to increase above what it was last year,” she said.
Lindelwa said she would be launching a campaign in April to encourage pupils to send in early applications.
“When pupils apply very late, they end up being forced to take a gap year or study courses they don’t want to. The sooner you apply, the better,” she said.
The app is available on Play Store.
