DRUNK drivers will have no space to breathe this Easter weekend.
That was the promise made by Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, as the province prepares for the long weekend.
Hadebe stressed that the police will show no mercy to drunk drivers.
"Anyone with even a drop of alcohol in their blood will be arrested, because alcohol and fatigue are among the causes of fatal accidents on our roads. When they come together, they become a big problem on our roads," she said.
Hadebe said police officers and traffic cops will be all over the roads in the province and will arrest anyone who is on the wrong side of the law.
"Our plans are watertight because we want to ensure that everyone who comes to our province for pleasure feels free and safe at all times. We know that some come to our province to commit offences and we will be waiting for them," she said.
Hadebe recently received 50 police vehicles from Transport and Community Safety MEC Florence Radzilani, to ensure that they are ready to patrol the streets of Limpopo during the Easter holidays.

"There's also a trend of theft of vehicles in the province, but we are working hard to put an end to this problem," Hadebe said.
MEC Radzilani has urged traffic cops not to negotiate with motorists.
"Our traffic cops are not trained to negotiate. They are trained to enforce the law. So, motorists must not try to talk their way out of a traffic offence," she said.
The chairman of Santaco in Limpopo, Robert Mthombeni, said they have a problem with both taxi and VW Polo drivers on the roads.
"Most of these drivers are impatient on the road. We need to work together and be patient on the road. But we will work with the police, traffic officers and commuters to win this battle," he said.
