AFTER realising that alcohol and drugs were destroying the future of the youth, Kabelo Malatji decided to intervene.

The 40-year-old from Kgohloane Village in Moletjie, Limpopo opened his Bosele Rehabilitation Centre in 2019 where he helps drug addicts recover.

He told Daily Sun that many parents brought their kids to his centre so he could help them recover and reclaim their lives.

“I started the centre because I care about the future of our young kids. Drugs and alcohol are destroying them and if nothing is done, the country is doomed because we will have no future leaders,” he said.

Kabelo said he also realised that most parents don’t have money to take their addicted children to rehabilitation centres that are in town.

“Most centres are expensive while the majority of parents are unemployed. Our centre is affordable and close to parents so that they don’t have to struggle when they want to see their children,” he said.

The centre has almost 100 addicts that Kabelo is rehabilitating. He said his biggest worry is that he doesn’t have enough space.

“All of them are accommodated in a five-roomed house which is not enough. They have to crowd themselves when they have to sleep, and this is not good for an addict as they may experience anxiety,” he said.

Kabelo said they are unable to do some of the activities due to shortage of space.

“It becomes even worse during visiting hours,” he said.

He now pleads with businesspeople and other partners to assist him to build more shelter to accommodate everyone.

“The money that parents pay every month goes towards buying food and other essentials. We're then left with little that is not enough to start building,” he said.

He said he is not making enough money as he is also taking care of addicts who are orphans and don’t have anyone to pay for them.

“I managed to get a stand and bought 50 pallets of bricks but was unable to start building due to funds. We need help,” he said.

Kabelo said he has 400 more addicts who are on the waiting list and the new building will help accommodate them all.
