A GOOD Samaritan Matsorwane Sekgopo managed to put a smile on the faces of needy villagers before Christmas.

The 51-year-old from the village of Ga-Sekgopo near Modjadjiskloof in Limpopo organised a walk and run for charity with his Matsorwane Sekgopo Foundation on Saturday, 16 December.

Matsorwane donated food parcels to 30 needy villagers on Saturday, 23 December so that they can also enjoy Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

He managed to raise money through the walk and run to buy the food parcels. Matsorwane said he always wants to make sure that no one goes to bed on an empty stomach as long as he has the means to help.

He told Daily Sun that he has been doing this for the past three years so that villagers can have a great Christmas without having to worry about what they will eat.

"All I want is for the needy villagers to go to bed with a full stomach, especially during the festive season," he said.

He said main aim is to build a community where everyone is equal, and no one feels less than anyone else.

"I know what I have done is not much, but it is better than nothing. At least they will have something to eat and be like their neighbours. That's something I have always wanted," he said.

Matsorwane is pleading stakeholders and businesspeople to reach out to him and support him in his endeavour to help the needy so that they can be like others.

A villager, Sydney Raholane said he was going to have a great Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

"I never thought I'd have food on the festive season. I didn’t know what to do as I have no money, but now all the stress is gone. I’m just going to enjoy the festive season," he said.
