THE case against the cop accused of killing the son of a landlord was postponed to Thursday, 7 March.
Nditsheni Mphephu from Vuwani in Limpopo appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrates Court on Monday, 4 March after his lawyer dumped him in February.
Mphephu, who is stationed at Thohoyandou Police Station, was initially charged with attempted murder, but now faces a murder charge after the victim, Ntakadzeni Muthige, died on 25 November 2023.
Ntakadzeni's father, Khumedzeni, told Daily Sun they remain hopeful that justice will be served.
"Despite the several postponements of the case, we believe that when this case is being postponed several times, it's progressing smoothly,” he said.

The court heard that Ntakadzeni confronted the suspect about playing loud music outside the rented residence, disturbing pupils preparing for exams.
An argument ensued, leading to the suspect firing shots at the victim before fleeing. The victim was hospitalised with severe gunshot wounds.
The gruesome incident happened in Makwarela Block A in Zone 1 on 20 November 2023. After the shooting, the suspect fled to his home in Vuwani Village and was arrested on 21 November 2023. He made his first court appearance on the same day.
Community leader Tovhowani Seemise said they are happy that the policeman is behind bars. “As long as the case is postponed while he's in jail, we are happy. He should remain where he belongs because of his wrongdoing,” he said.
NPA spokeswoman, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said: "The case against Nditsheni Lefty Mphephu accused of killing the son of his landlord was postponed to Thursday, 7 March as he now has a lawyer after the first one withdrew."
