THE High Court of South Africa, North West Division at the Ga-Rankuwa Regional Court has postponed the trial case against three suspects charged with the murder of Sam Mbatha to 12 April.

Arthur Khoza (19), Mahlatsi Nkuna (21), and Thato Mosetla (22) are facing charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping, murder, malicious damage to property and defeating the ends of justice.

According to NPA spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, the matter had to be rolled over as one of the accused behind bars didn’t pitch at court.

“The state has issued a requisition for the accused to be in court when the matter trial resumes,” he said.

Sam Mbatha was an award-winning MC and a Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI) community activist.

He was murdered in cold blood and burnt.

On 17 June 2021, the charred body of a man was found in a burnt Hyundai i20 at a soccer field in Ikageng Section, Potchefstroom.

DNA samples positively identified the body of being that of Sam Mbatha. The suspects were arrested on 21 June 2021 at a house in Phutha Section, Klipgate, in connection with the murder.
