THE leader of the ECONOMIC Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, reminds the residents of Alexandra township in Joburg of the promise made by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
During the second day of voter registration, Malema continued to try and sway voters to his side by reminding them of Ramaphosa’s promise to build one million RDP houses.
In 2019, Ramaphosa had said in a televised address during the unrest that the government had a programme to build 1 million houses and that residents would benefit from it.
Malema, speaking outside Skeen Primary School on Sunday, 19 November, said Ramaphosa had already reached the end of his term but had not delivered the houses.
"Ramaphosa came here in Alexandra and promised one million houses. Now the term ends next year, Ramaphosa leaves next year after five years and has not built a single house," Malema said.
Malema said the Alexandra community can google the video of the president making such statements if they don’t believe him.
He also said Ramaphosa promised jobs in the township, but to the contrary, youth unemployment has skyrocketed.

"He promised a lot of jobs, but what happened after he promised jobs? Unemployment in Alexandra has skyrocketed, and the youth of Alexandra have no jobs, Malema said.
He said the youth have been driven into drug use because of the lack of sports facilities.
"If you look at the sports facilities in Alexandra, there are none. The young people in Alex have given in to alcohol and drugs and only the EFF can get them out of it," he said.
Malema said the people no longer trust politicians because of lies.
"Our people do not trust politicians anymore, when you go to their (potential voters') houses, you have to earn their trust by being patient with them and explaining to them in a language they understand," he said.
Malema also visited Sandton, Katlehong, Thokoza and Thembisa on Sunday.
