THE lead Investigator in Senzo Meyiwa's murder trial, Bongani Gininda, made a shocking statement.
He said the murder of the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain was a contract killing rather than that of a robbery gone wrong.
Gininda made the revelation while being cross examined in court on Monday, 22 January after the case resumed.
There were allegations from those who were in the house that Meyiwa’s death was a result of a robbery gone wrong.

Those present on the day alleged two armed men went into the house and demanded cell phones. A scuffle then allegedly broke out and that was when Meyiwa was shot. The lawyers of the five accused men have always maintained that their clients were never at the scene at the time of the murder.
"Investigations which resulted in evidence under oath revealed that the victim was murdered as a contractual assassination or hit, rather than a robbery or robbery gone wrong,” said Gininda.
He said the evidence in their possession showed that the five suspects actively participated in the murder.
He alleged that one of the accused, without specifying which one, had bragged about the assassination at a family gathering in Vosloorus while accused one tried to turn against the other accused in the matter.
Gininda said accused two was implicated further by the alleged confession he made in May 2020. However, the defense have maintained that their clients were under duress when they made the statement.
He is further linked by the formal confession he made to the Commission Independent Officer on 30 May 2020. He further said the suspect pointed out the sequence collection prior to the incident, in and outside, during the assasination and the dropping of the accused at the cellphone tower referred to.
