FORMER attorney Ramolongwane Patrick Mariri was bust for allegedly stealing more than R1,2 million worth of trust fund!

The 48-year-old appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Friday, 1 October facing charges of theft.

According to Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, during 2017 when Mariri was practising as an attorney at RP Mariri Attorneys in Pretoria, he swindled and withdrew more than R1,2 million from the attorneys’ trust fund for personal use.

“Further investigation revealed the money was paid into the trust fund account following the Road Accident Fund clients’ payment finalisation. The Law Society has since struck Mariri from practising as an attorney.”

Mulamu said a warrant of arrest was issued and Mariri handed himself over to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation office in Pretoria on Thursday, 30 September.

“The investigation team formally charged him with theft and took him to court.

“Mariri was granted R10 000 bail and the case was postponed to 22 October for further investigation.”
