THE principal of Grosvenor Girls High School has been placed on precautionary suspension amid accusations of racism and financial irregularities.

This after chaos erupted at the school last week, where gatvol pupils called for the KZN Department of Education to intervene in the crisis. Pupils at the school in the Bluff area, Durban, told MEC Kwazi Mshengu that they were tired of being treated unfairly because of their skin colour.

The department appointed an independent panel to investigate the allegations, with the advice to place the principal on suspension and investigate the allegations.

Spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said the panel has been at work and in consultation with the department over the weekend.

“The precautionary suspension follows advice from the independent panel appointed to investigate allegations of racism and financial irregularities at the school.

“Upon looking at the correspondence submitted by the department, the panel deemed it fit to recommend the suspension of the principal in order to facilitate an investigation that will not be marred by any difficulties for those who will voluntarily tender evidence,” said Mahlambi.
