MURDER suspect Letlhogonolo Makolometsa (28) appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrates Court, North West on Tuesday, 18 July.

He was arrested in connection with the murder of court interpreter George Mohau Lencoe (57) in Extension 1, Jouberton last Sunday, 7 July.

Makolometsa was described as someone who failed to show remorse by the family and the community members during his court appearance.

State prosecutor Kethiwe Seiphetlho told the court that the suspect is in Mzansi illegally.

"The court will postpone the matter as it still needs to confirm the status of the suspect in the country because according to Home Affairs, he's illegal.

"The court is aware that even when the suspect was checked through his work permit in South Africa, he wasn't reflecting," Seiphetlho told the court.

The suspect's legal representative from Legal Aid argued after consulting with the suspect, stating that: "The Home Affairs official must be present in court during the next appearance to clarify that, as my client said he's legal in the country."

Police said the suspect's follows after an argument had ensued when he allegedly urinated in front of the Lencoe’s yard.

The suspect, who was driving a white Suzuki Bakkie, allegedly bumped the victim and fled the scene. Lencoe was declared dead on the scene by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).

Magistrate Monica Madilola postponed the case to next Wednesday, 26 July for formal bail application.

The victim's son, Tshiamo Lencoe said he's heartbroken.

"I'm so heartbroken and shattered by the high rate of crime in our country because our government and Home Affairs seem to be lenient to foreigners and unfair on us.

"Let justice be served to this person who doesn't even show remorse so that he can spend the rest of his life in jail," Tshiamo told Daily Sun.

ANCWL Jane Mopedi said let there be no bail for the suspect, because he's a danger to the community.
