ZULU king Misuzulu kaZwelithini met with his uncle King Mswati III where he was formally presented as the Zulu king to the Eswatini kingdom.

King Misuzulu visited the Lozitha Palace in Eswatini on Thursday, 12 August.

He spent time with King Mswati, who’s the brother of his late mother regent Queen Mantfombi Dlamini Zulu.

He was accompanied by the traditional prime minister to the Zulu Monarch, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi as well as praise singer Buzetsheni Mdletshe, his personal assistance Prince Thulani Zulu and Prince Mbongiseni Zulu.

Buthelezi said: “I formally presented His Majesty at Lozitha Palace, where we also met with Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini, Minister of Foreign Affairs Thulu Dladla, as well as members of the royal house of Eswatini.

“His Majesty King Mswati III graciously held a luncheon in honour of our king in the banqueting hall of Lozitha Palace,” he said.

He said while he hoped to meet Ndlovukati (the queen mother) of Eswatini, Queen Ntfombi, time constraints prevented that meeting.

“His Majesty King Mswati III was compelled to excuse me following our extensive time together, as I had to return to Ulundi. The gracious hospitality of our hosts speaks of the deep connection between the royal families of both nations, and the great respect which endures between the Zulu Kingdom and the Kingdom of Eswatini,” said Buthelezi.

Meanwhile, the battle for the Zulu throne continues as other royal family members released a statement saying they had a meeting on 1 August in which they discussed who they believed was a suitable candidate to be king.

“For the first time since the passing of King Zwelithini, the family meetings have broadened up to include relevant parties in the Zulu Kingdom as a whole, which is significant and progressive in directing the royal family matters. The discussions follow a press conference that was held post the family cleansing ceremony, on 19 June where the family informed the Zulu nation and South Africa that they had finished the mourning period and would start with the discussions of announcing the king.

“It was also in these key meetings, where letters were written and issued to relevant individuals and government offices on the family proceedings and standing on disputes around the throne,” they said.
