THE Maloka family want justice for Kgosi Maloka (12), who died on Thursday, 1 February when he was crushed by a scholar bus after he had fallen.

The family pleads with President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene in their painful situation.

The Grade 6 learner from Modiselle Primary School was laid to rest at Kgabalatsane graveyard on Saturday, 10 February.

Kgosi's uncle Dichaba Maloka (54) from Ga-Rankuwa in Tshwane was angry at Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane whom he alleged had promised to meet the family on Saturday, 17 February but had failed to do so.

"We want answers because Chiloane requested to meet us today. We feel disrespected. I see no reason to meet with him anymore and no reason for him to talk to us as a family anymore," he said.

He said the Gauteng Department of Education had failed them. He appealed to Ramaphosa to visit them so he could understand what the family was going through.

"Does he accept the way we are treated? If this is the situation, we want heads to roll. We have incompetent people, and people who don't want to work. They must get out," he said.

Maloka said they plead with Ramaphosa to visit them. He said if the bus company was wrong, they should then take responsibility and the same applies to the Department of Education too.

"Anyone who is wrong must pay for this," he said.

He said the buses which continue to pass in front of their home leaves them traumatised. Maloka said the bus company had made a commitment to help the family in terms of paying for the transport of Kgosi's younger sister.

"I'm not a child, I'm an adult with a commitment. I'm a pastor myself and I'm not living for Chiloane. If he comes, he will come on my own terms," said Maloka.

Nathi Gabela, manager of Phuthuma Travel, said they wouldn't close any doors regarding the investigations.

With regards to the atmosphere at the scene on the day of the incident, Gabela said residents were calm.

"When I arrived, I didn't see any threats," he said.

Gabela cleared the rumours going around that the bus driver had run away after the accident.

He said about 30 minutes after the incident, when he arrived at the scene, the bus driver wasn't there. He said no one had taken him but the driver had boarded another bus which dropped him off at a local petrol station.

"The supervisor of the petrol station then took him to the police station," he said.

Children picketed outside the family home holding up placards and chanting.

Bridget Mabuza (16) said: "We need justice for Kgosi."

Gauteng Department of Education spokesman Steve Mabona said: "We will engage the family on the latest developments accordingly."
